The Beauty Of Transgression

Art & Culture

The Idler Academy welcomes author and multi-media artist Danielle de Picciotto for a fascinating talk on the cultural history of Berlin, accompanied with music from Alexander Hacke of Einstürzende Neubauten. Danielle has recently published her Berlin memoir, The Beauty of Transgression, and she will be signing copies on the night.

Picciotto moved to Berlin in the late 80s. For decades now, she has witnessed the social upheaval, varying musical styles and experimental creativity at the heart of Berlin’s Art Scene. Being an active member of this scene, Piciotto has had a unique insight into the city’s cultural output and today is considered a key figure in the Berlin underground.

The Beauty of Transgression is Danielle de Picciotto’s memoir of Berlin. The book brings together her accounts of musicians, fashion designers and other artists and their milieus with unique first-hand descriptions of milestone places and events.

Danielle de Picciotto’s intimate text and personal selection of images make The Beauty of Transgression a uniquely genuine documentation of the recent artistic history of Berlin.

During the reading, film clips will be projected during the reading and her husband Alexander Hacke of the legendary German band Einstürzende Neubauten will create live electronic soundscapes during and in between the chapters.
