Whoever told you about the five-second window has some serious explaining to do. The long-established 'five-second rule' has officially been debunked, according to mouth-watering reports from US-based news network CNET.

Not only can bacteria contaminate your food "instantaneously" on impact with the floor, but picking it up and devouring it is now officially deemed a cardinal sin.

On-the-move snack eaters worldwide will understandably be shaken by the reports – which may well force a serious reconsideration on "whether that Greggs cheese and bean melt can be dusted off."
