Valuing Electronic Music Launch

Art & Culture

This Friday Kings College London and Open University present the findings of their six month long research project 'Valuing Electronic Music'.

Using a combination of observation, interviewing, and large-scale harvesting and analysis of public data, they have studied the ways in which professional, semi-professional, and amateur music-makers use the internet to produce value for their own and one another’s work. They have focussed primarily on SoundCloud and on London’s electronic music scene and the findings will have broader application, contributing to understanding the relationship between peer esteem and commercial success, both in the music industry and in the cultural industries more generally.

The free event at The Lexington will feature sets from Slackk, Winterlight, and Glitch Lich, talks from Luis-Manuel Garcia and the Valuing Electronic Music project team will be presenting the findings of the project. The project also features images from the Clubland project by Hungry Visuals, a unique attempt to document the London club scene through medium format photography, and as such it provides a powerful record of the embodiment of electronic music and its value.

P.s. We've heard that there will be free food for those that get there early!
