Terraforma Announce Second Wave Of Acts For 2016

Art & Culture

Terraforma, a relatively new festival now in its third year, is taking place on the first weekend of July this year (that’s the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd) in the woodlands of the 18th century Villa Arconati, a historic national monument just outside Milan. It’s a festival with an interesting remit, emphasizing sustainability and experimentation as defining principles in its set up and programme.

This year it seems they’re delivering on that manifesto with a bill that includes Charlemagne Palestine (who Rhys Chatham highlighted as an important figure in a wonderfully elaborate Influences feature) Norwegian ambient composer Biosphere, On U-Sound dub alchemist Adrian Sherwood, Italy’s own Donato Dozzy (also of Voices from The Lake), PAN cohort Lee Gamble, Healing Force Project, Rabih Beaini (aka Morphosis – who’ll be exhibiting his audio-visual work with French filmmaker Vincent Moon), Atom TM & Tobias, Mark Fell under his Sensate Focus guise, Beatrice Dillon and a select addition of underground Italian acts including Primitive Art and many others.

In addition to an impressive line-up, the festivals organisers are restoring ‘an original labyrinth that originally existed on the grounds of the villa back in the 18th century’. Bit of a departure from the mountains of lager cans, abandoned tents and miscellaneous waste that plagues the clean ups of the major English festivals then. Workshops and talks will be held in the villa and its gardens during the day, and the camping area and food court will also share space in the same grounds.

A trippy concept video – think The Tree of Life but a bit more video art – entitled Diamorpheses and directed by Dimitra Louana Marlanti is available to view below.
