Southbank Centre Host Annual Women Of The World Festival
Southbank Centre will play host to Women of the World festival, this annual festival aims to recognize and celebrate women. Running between the 8th-13th March WOW is returning for its 6th year. Opening day coincides with International Women’s Day and Gemma Cairney will explore feminism and the representation of women in the music industry by chatting to the likes of Sister Sledge.
The festival will also see Yasmin Kadi tell her story about being a woman refugee and bringing a mix of music and comedy will be Mirth Control. Bonnie Langford, Sister Sledge, Sharon D.Clarke, Peggy Seeger, WOW Orchestra conducted by Sian Edwards and Sue Perkins, WOW Jazz Orchestra are also on the bill. Jessy McCabe, who campaigned for women composers to be on the A-level syllabus, is also involved in the festival.
WOW will host debates on gender equality in music including Annie Lennox and Charlotte Church sharing their experiences working within the industry with live performances from IV Rox and Jamz Supernova. One woman musical show My Beautiful Black Dog and other free music events will also feature.
