Short & Sweet launches the very first stereoscopic short film festival in the UK!

Short & Sweet, London’s only weekly short film evening,is proud to announce the launch of the very first 3d stereoscopic short film festival on Friday, 16 July at the Barbican in London.

Short & Sweet 3D is an exciting new step for us and for short film in general; celebrating independent, maverick, cutting-edge filmmaking in the growing stereoscopic medium. The cinema seats 288 people and we will screen 10 stereoscopic short films and music videos from around the globe. Directors will be present on the night and there will also be a display of homemade 3D cameras. We are in talks with Brian May, Ray Zone, TIm Burton and Tim Key to potentially speak on the night.

Julia Stephenson (Short & Sweet founder) says: “The current enthusiasm for 3D provides us with a unique opportunity to seek out some of the freshest new films exploring the medium. Short & Sweet has always been dedicated to the exhibition of short film as a critical art form in its own right.Short & Sweet 3D is the beginning of an exciting new journey for us and for film makers from around the globe!”

Short & Sweet launched on 8 May 2006 and has been a success ever since. Each and every week a selection of the finest short films, music videos and short animations from around the globe are screened. The aim has always been to expose the best talent and celebrate film. We are dedicatedto the exhibition and creation of short film as a crucial art form in its own right. With over 200 people coming each week – this is a great place to network and discover new talent.www.shortandsweet.tv

Short & Sweet has been involved in many exciting projects over the past few years. We were invited to Co2penhagen, the first carbon neutral festival in the world, where we screened short films over 2 days on renewable energy. We showcased at the Big Chill Festival and for 3 years running, BAFTA have chosen Short & Sweet as the London venue to screen all their short film and short animation nominees.

In 2008 we organised a short film competition for Getty Images called the Getty Images and Short & Sweet film challenge. The winning film “Photograph of Jesus” by Laurie Hill has won almost all the animation awards this year. He is a legend and we are so proud of him. To view this masterpiece click on the link
