Southbank Centre have just revealed the first names for this year's Meltdown! Appropriately enough for the festival's 25th anniversary year, guest curator Robert Smith of The Cure has clearly decided to go all out with his selections.

Shoegaze gods My Bloody Valentine will be playing their first UK show in five years, while Nine Inch Nails will be making their Royal Festival Hall debut. The Psychedelic Furs will be opening the festival on 15th June, with support from Australian indie heroes The Church.

Other confirmed acts include Mogwai, Deftones, Placebo, Manic Street Preachers and Kristin Hersh. Click here to see the full list of events, with more acts to be announced in the coming months.

"Curating this 25th Meltdown festival is a dream come true," Smith said, "a fantastic experience… albeit getting 60 wonderful artists, including many of my all time favourites, to come together for 10 days in June is not without its challenges – as one of my predecessors noted, it is akin to figuring out a giant psychedelic puzzle… But as each invitee confirms, as each shimmering piece falls into place, I pinch myself – this is really happening… And the complete picture will undoubtedly be out of this world!”

Meltdown 2018 takes place 15-24th June. Tickets go on sale to Southbank Centre members on 13th March and to everyone else on 15th March. Click here for more information.
