STOP PRESS: Its a UKG Thing bring in the big guns.

For this very, very special, one off party, Locked On records who have been dormant for over a decade, have agreed to bring out their incredible back catalogue for one night only to take fans back in time and through a complete history of the label. Locked On was without doubt the most credible garage label of its time. Despite many pleas and suggestions the time has never been right to dust off the vinyl and bring out the old records until now. Ramsey & Fen will also make an appearance for this special night to play a one off garage classics set.

Locked On was born in 1996 through the release of the compilation LP LOCKED ON ‘INSIDE THE MIX’ (mixed by the legendary Todd Edwards). Around that time Pure Groove records (then in Archway, north London) was one of a handful of record shops selling a unique style of music which was a blend of the soulful side of house, drum ‘n’ bass/jungle. This LP was the first to expose the genre tagged ‘UK Garage’.

The album combined such classics as Tina Moore’s ‘Never Let Me Go’, Indo’s ‘Are You Sleeping’, Kim English’s ‘Nightlife’, Daniel J Lewis ‘Spend The Night’ and Todd Edwards ‘Saved My Life’ to name a few.

Locked On then began releasing 12″ singles from emerging UK talent which led to hits like ‘Moving Too Fast’ Romina Johnson, ‘Neighbourhood’ Zed Bias and Sambucca (yes that Sambucca!) by Wideboys and Dennis G and also genre busting instrumental by US Alliance ‘All I Know’ which attracted the likes of The Streets, Example, Metronomy, and Plan B to the label and Pure Groove.

Ziad was one of the founder members of Pure Groove back in ’89 he was not only buying and selling the early ‘uk garage’ records but was a DJ in his own right hosting his weekly pirate show on Chicago 90.6FM between 1996 and 1998.

Fighting the other corner at this one off special party will be DJs Ramsey & Fen who will be taking on Ziad, playing a special garage classics set.

Legendary garage duo Ramsey & Fen were involved in producing and re-mixing some of the biggest garage anthems in the 90s ncluding the likes of The Heartists Belo Horizonti, The fabulous Baker Boys Oh Boy, N-tyc Telefunkin, Yazz Abandon Me, Jaheem Could it be, Robbie Craig Special, Somore I refuse, 2 re-mixes of Kim Mazelles Big Baby and Quality. They have also mixed high profile garage compilations such as Garage Nation and the 3rd volume of the Locked On series. In the year 2000 the Lovebug Compilation was also released which included more Ramsey & Fen material.

Just some of the artists that came through Locked On records include: Somore, Nu Birth, The Streets, Dem 2, TuffJam, Doolally, Artful Dodger, Songstress, Ruff Cut & Julius, Nu Birth, Suburban Lick, Zed Bias, Wideboys, Ebony, Tallisman, David Howard, Groove Connektion, Sound of One, Southside Allstars

Its a UKG thing launched in Dalston last November a packed out party at Visions saw queues on the street all through the night until closing. MC DT performed his old classic Do you really like it to a rapturous crowd.

Warming up will be Stacey Tang from popular east London rnb classics night Bangers & Mash Up.
