Hyponik 10th Birthday

Art & Culture

From their time spent as London's premier promo team, developing alongside the then burgeoning dubstep scene and booking many of the genres early stars, taking over Fabric in one of the clubs biggest ever recorded Bank Holiday shows in the late noughties and playing an integral role to London's world-beating club scene, through to rejuvenating their online presence to push a new generation of artists, producers and DJs, Hyponik's ten years existence in the capital's ever-changing electronic music scene is an achievement in itself.

With a history of club nights including Rebel Bass in the early noughties, Dublime (which helped join the dots between dubstep, techno, house, electronica and dub years before it became the norm) and the successful HypHypHyp nights of 2009 (that saw the worlds of garage, house and bass represented with now world-renowned acts like Jackmaster, Bok Bok, Jamie Vex'd and Oneman), Hyponik's dedication to the cause has been unfaltering over the years. Always sticking to an ethos of open-minded musical interest, and doing their best to avoid temporary trends and surface level fashions, Hyponik has aimed to be an honest reflection of the UK's cutting edge dancefloors, studios and pockets of talent – from the hard drive to the dancefloor and beyond.

Friday 19th October will see the Hyponik crew out in force as they take over Dalston's Birthdays venue for an intimate friends and family affair, taking in some of the UK's very best bass-led talent to celebrate our tenth anniversary. Headlining is a top secret special guest and man who's spanned the past 10 years of development, finding a home on one of the UK's finest independent labels in the form of Hyperdub Recordings, providing the very finest bass inflections and UK funky mutations as standard.

Next up we see Blunted Robots boss and Rinse FM stalwart Brackles following his recent "Rinse Presents…" album success with what's bound to be a superb set of house, garage, UK funky and more. His weekly Rinse show continues to blow up some of the very best dancefloor music from across Europe, whilst his own productions like the recent 'Chasing Crazy' meld soul vocals, UK underground rhythms and pure bass tectonics.

Mr. Beatnick is man who's productions have echoed the UK scene, as his instrumental hip-hop productions have morphed into a series of in demand releases released via London's own Don't Be Afraid Recordings. Mixing up house, boogie and soul into a heavily addictive package. Mr. Beatnick's sets provide the best in classic and modern day house, with his own distinctive crate-digging flavour.

Rounding off the bill will be one of our current favourite new talents Lakosa, a Northern producer making the best in stepping 'UK bass' cuts that take influence from garage, house, jungle, soul and more, and has seen him recently picked up by deep house legend Kerri Chandler's Madtech Records. One-to-watch for 2013, and undoubtedly a man who knows a thing or two about getting a dancefloor bubbling.

Support comes from the usual Hyponik Residents, who'll be pulling for classics, forgotten gems, cutting edge dubs and more, spanning the full ten years of pure music, parties, tears, joy, broken bones, nudity, at times ridiculous drunken behaviour and more than a few dancefloor epiphanies.
