Denovali Festival Returns In October

Denovali is the festival where all acts are equal: there are no headliners or lower ranking performers, its just a beautiful utopian dream of equality. I think we can all learn something from this. what would it be like if we took all the biggest festival line ups from the year and just switched them around?

How about if you made Deekline the headliner of Boomtown Festival, shoving John Butler Trio right down into one of the little side districts? What about if at Glastonbury, The Who could have been wacked down onto the WOW! stage and replaced with, I don't know, Rene Lavice to finish up Sunday night on the pyramid stage instead? Is that equality or is that just swapping around acts for comedic juxtaposition? Probably the latter. Well, Denovali, from the 1st – 4th October in Essen, seem to have achieved actual equality with their line up, which consists of:

Holly Herndon, William Basinski, Ah! Kosmos, Mondkopf, Blanck Mass (the electronic solo project of Fuck Buttons’ Benjamin John Power), Emptyset, Thomas Köner, drone legend and Sunn O))) founder Stephen O'Malley, Austrians Elektro Guzzi and Noveller (the solo electric guitar project of Brooklyn-based composer and filmmaker Sarah Lipstate) among others.
