Bugged Out 20th Bday Pt 1 – Top 5 Five Tracks – A Reflection

Art & Culture

In the first of BUGGEDOUT!'s 20th birthday celebrations we were taken to Bloomsbury Ballroom in Hoeburn. It's a grand 1920s art-deco building which exuded opulence with its grand atrium and wide stairways.

The idea behind this night was to bring together a number of DJs who have had an involvement with the clubs twenty year history. The line-up included Andrew Weatherall, Bicep, Heidi, Skream, Erol Alkan, Jackmaster, Dusky and many more. They all played their five top tracks of all time. A huge variety of music genres graced the ballroom, from jazz, to punk rock to trance. Among the tracks played we heard Joy Division's Transmission, Rui Da Silva's Touch me and Lindsey Buckingham's Big Love. New Order's Blue Monday went down a treat. Fleetwood Mac's The Chain had everyone screaming the lyrics from start to finish with the whole crowd jumping in delight as the guitar solo rolled in.

The eclectic nature of the night made it, at times, feel somewhat fractured and slightly bizarre, but it was nonetheless really interesting to see what hits had made their mark on these heavyweights. It was brave of them to play tracks that are seemingly diametric to what they are known for playing and to an audience that had little idea of what to expect. Despite this everyone seemed to have a great time and the concept behind the night was a great way to kick off BuggedOUT!’s birthday celebrations.
