Launch Of London’s All Night Tube Set To Be Delayed…

It looks like our much vaunted new 24 hour London playground is to be postponed. Today BBC News has announced that with two further tube strikes announced for August 25th and 27th, it is looking likely that the round-the-clock tube service – scheduled to commence on September 12th – is likely to be postponed. The strikes have been called by tube union members concerned over the safety of new working hours.

From the BBC –

"During the last strike on 6 August, London Mayor Boris Johnson said he was "not fussed" about the night service starting on 12 September as planned, as long as it started in the autumn."

"Len Duvall, leader of the London Assembly Labour group, said: "By speculatively announcing a start date without any consultation with the people expected to run the service, Boris Johnson's gung-ho approach has led to disputes, disruption and now delay."

"He said he hoped a delay would provide "breathing space" for the unions and management to resolve the dispute."

There has been speculation that the extended tube opening hours will breathe new life into nightlife outside of the current East and Central hotspots. Whether that is the case remains to be seen for a lil bit longer.
