S Olbricht – The ‘Shine A Light On’ Ransom Note Mix

Music

Our light shines from the top of R$N Towers out into the furthest reaches of the globe, blaring it's beautiful beacon of joy out across the lands in search of the very finest sounds. Once more it has come across something so irresistible that it's somehow turned into a freakish reverse magpie, or something equally peculiar. The label Proto Sites has roped in our glorious signal and pointed it firmly at S Olbricht, a rather talented man who has put together an hour of aural goodness for us to share with you as well as putting up with some of our most benign questions yet.

Settle yourself in for the long run, you won't want to miss a second of this;

Please introduce yourself…
Who are you, where are you and what are you?

Martin Mikolai. Budapest, Hungary. I'm a co-head of Farbwechsel Records, producing techno under the name S Olbricht and I'm also half of the duo SILF. And a friend of Daniel Jani, the best graphic-designer I've ever met.

Describe your sound without using the letter 'e'.

Rough and dark and confusing.

Who inspired you to first make music? Who inspires you now?

All the people around me but mostly my ex-girlfriend. All the people around me but mostly my actual girlfriend.

What were your original aspirations as a producer and how do you think you're shaping up?

I wanted to make dance music avoiding conventions of sound and rhythm but I came to realize that dance music means nothing but conventions so I stopped labelling my stuff 'dance music'.

What were the first and last records you bought?

First: Paradox – Funkitivity / Shinjuku.

Last: XIII – No (The Relative Effect Of Explication).

What's your favourite ice cream flavour?

Venetian Snares' discography.

At home.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

Norwell's balcony while cooking chilli.

What should we be wearing?

G-strings obviously.

On the shore of Lake Bled, nothing else counts.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

Alpár's acid track without any kick drums or percussion.

Ellen Allien – Weiss.Mix

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

My Grandfather.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

2 turntables with a 3 chanel mixer (I even had to sell my skateboard). Now? Now I have a laptop and a controller. That's all.

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

The first track.

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Citra hop.

If it was an animal what would it be?

A black horse with 5 heads and no eyes.

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

Nagy Feró & A Bikini – Hova Lett…
