London Skatepark To Get Listed Status

In a first of its kind, the London Rom skatepark is to be given listed status. The park was built back in 1978, one of the first on English shores, and has been recognised by English Heritage as one of the finest examples from the handful of skateparks to have survived since the 1970s. Located in Hornchurch, the park is named after the nearby River Rom, and based on a classic Californian design. 

According to English Heritage director Roger Bowdler, "The Rom is the finest example in England to this aspect of youth culture, and we are delighted its special interest will be protected for future generations through listing."

Heritage Minister Ed Vaizey said: "Its listing at Grade II is testament to its design and also highlights how the UK's unique heritage reflects all parts of our culture and history."
