Underspreche: The Wednesday Alternative Mix

Music

There is a sense of purpose about the Italian duo Underspreche. Perhaps this is best demonstrated through the volume of work they have released over the last couple of years. However, what is in fact most impressive about the up and coming pair is their stature and from which camp their releases have emerged from. Last year the enigmatic duo released three independent EP's on Optimo, this is no small feat. Fast forwards to 2017 and Underspreche are back at it again having just released a new three track record on the Mule sublabel Endless Flight.

The pair appear to be on a course for success, eyes peeled.

Listen to the mix and read the interview below:

Who are you, where are you and what are you?

We are a duo but before this, we are Marika and Simone. We decided to dedicate a really important part of our life to the music. We are now based in the south of Italy.

What does your music sound like? Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the old internet is acceptable)?

Where was the mix recorded?

We recorded this mix in our studio/home with an omnipresent audience… Our cat, Beeth, she loves to sleep there, especially under the dj console.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

There s no ideal way to listen to a mix than what everyone feels comfortable!

What should we be wearing?

Clothes are not very important to listen or dance, so whatever you like!

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: location/system/format?

Definitely our dream is to record something in the jungle, close to a waterfall so that we can record also its rush.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

We are currently hypnotised by the powerful groove of Arttu – Walking on A Fine Line

What's your favourite recorded mix of all time?

We have no preference but everytime we record a mixtape we play records we are really into at the moment and also we usually create something new live during our recordings adding some samples or vocals such as the last tracks in this mixtape so in every mixtape we can find a piece of us.

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

We can’t give a name of a Dj but having a performance with an artist such Frank Zappa with his so variegated artistic influences it would have been a great experience.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

Simone starts with 2 turntables and a mixer Monacor so many years ago. We keep changing set up thousand times through the years, we used guitars, various quantity of samplers, computers but the ideal set up is what we have now: a dj console with 2 turntables and a live set with drum machine, kaosspad, effects and synths.

What's more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

Both.

What were the first and last records you bought?

We can’t remember what was the first records in our life but the first record we bought since we decided to be a duo it is by Levon Vincent, "Double Jointed Sex Freak Ep"(Novel Sound 04).

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Pizza and ice cream! We can’t live without!!

If it was an animal what would it be?

A feline.

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

Difficult to answer! We used to listen to different genres and usually what we think is impossible to mix soon can become stuff for a new re-edit. Gymnopédie by Erik Satie can be something difficult to mix.

Upcoming in the world of…

We are always working on new concepts, ideas and projects.
