This Week… Ohhh, Jeremy Corbyn

Commentary

"In our age there is no such thing as 'keeping out of politics.' All issues are political issues, and politics itself is a mass of lies, evasions, folly, hatred and schizophrenia." G. Orwell

"One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors." Plato

"Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedies." G. Marx

Check out that picture above of Jeremy Corbyn introducing Run The Jewels at Glastonbury. Somehow it feels so right, so natural. There's maybe a handful of other MPs you could imagine appearing in that photo and not looking like a prize bellend. Think back to Mick Jagger wannabee Tony Blair oh-so-casually slinging his guitar case over his shoulder as he moved into No. 10. Or David Cameron misquoting The Smiths in Parliament. Or Gordon Brown proclaiming himself a huge fan of the Arctic Monkeys and then not able to name a single one of their songs. At least Ed Miliband refused to play it cool when he chose A-ha and Robbie Williams on Desert Island Discs.

Anyway, following his triumphant Pyramid Stage appearance, I'm told Corbyn spent the rest of the weekend pulling pints, dancing naked in the Stone Circle and getting absolutely shitfaced while listening to Digital Mystikz. The absolute boy.

The image of the 'big bag of cans' has now become emblematic of the Corbyn movement. While socialism has often struggled with image problems, Corbyn's last few months have done a lot to change that. This absolutely wonderful article titled 'The Big Bag of Cans and the Spirit of Utopia' gets right to the heart of the matter.

This week we also had the story about Donald Trump – leader of the free world and owner of a face like a burst grape – hanging a framed copy of one of his TIME Magazine covers at his golf club. Seems fairly normal, right? Except this is yet another example of FAKE NEWS. Bizarrely, the cover in question is a mock up, despite Trump having actually appeared on the real cover a grand total of 14 times. Not only that, but the barcode is taken from an online Photoshop tutorial on how to create a fake TIME cover. You couldn't make it up.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS?
