This Week… Let’s Build More Windmills

FEEL THE ENERGY

In the exciting world of gas and electrics, there seemed some coincidences this week. British Gas, good old fashioned gas like our Grandparents fought for, happy gas that could play out in the streets till all hours and never even locked it's door, has hit a slump in profits. Half expecting the CEO on the telly to blame it on those three days we had last week when it got a bit hot, he took it firmly on the chin and admitted that gas was old news. The kids want some new energy, Energy Go or something like that. Step up EDF to the rescue. Coming over from France, they have great faith in nuclear being the iOS update we all need to keep our castles warm. So Hinkley Point C in the space of a day got the go ahead and then got postponed. My main concern is what happened to Hinkley Points A and B? Were they failed experiments and are now hidden under the stairs or a cupboard, like the one in the R$N office which remains locked AT ALL TIMES and always leads me to ask "What happened to that intern we had?"

Remember Chernobyl? Well it is being mooted as the Ukraine's answer to Disneyland Paris. Or Thorpe Park. Oh no it's not, because if nuclear goes bad, it goes really bad. So instead, they are looking at using the deserted land to drive renewable energy sources. So hopefully, when the HInkley Brothers escape from the basement and tell us all the bad stories, maybe we can just skip the risk of a nuclear disaster and get some windmills put it sharpish.

And then, even as I write this we may have just 10 hours left before it all goes a different shape anyway. A number of online theorists base their assertion on a supposed 'polar flip', (didn't they murder enough things when they ruined a Beatles classic?) subsequent global earthquakes and a 'rolling cloud' to destroy the Earth. So if you are catching up with this tomorrow, I guess it's all ok for now.
