This Week... It's not the end of the world!

"That Fleetwood Mac edit you made last lockdown? RELEASE IT!"

I remember when I got my exam results - the fear, the dread, the optimism and subsequent gloom which followed. It's funny to think that back then they all seemed so important, I guess they are. I mean, in some strange way they contributed to my magnificent career in music journalism today. Perhaps without that 'B' in Biology I might never have gotten to grace the hallowed pages of this magazine, perhaps with an 'A' I'd be writing somewhere more proper like The Guardian's culture magazine or reviewing theatre for The Independent. Ah well - in another life and all that... I hope the kids who didn't do as well as they'd hoped this week know that there's more to life than GCSE's anyway. After all university is just around the corner and that's even worse...

Anyway, back to the important stuff. The tunes! It seems everyone and their dog has decided that now is the time to release a 'cheeky club banger'. That Fleetwood Mac edit you made last lockdown? RELEASE IT! That minimal techno dub version which nobody liked last March? RE-RELEASE IT! Unfinished tracks you've decided make a really nice mixtape rather than a fully fledged album because you couldn't be bothered? RELEASE THEM TOO!

I went to my first festival post lockdown at the weekend too, had a great time so I did. Not much social distancing mind you - it's quite hard to be consciously aware of two metres when you barely know what time of day or planet your on. Seems it wasn't just me either, perhaps that needs a rethink...

Right, it's late in the day so here's the internet...
