Funkineven – Dracula

I know Halloween has been and gone but I just couldn't resist putting this up this week. I'm a sucker for a bit of acid and when it's as varied and downright nasty as this feisty number you'd be a fool to miss out. Cracking stuff from a producer who's been bringing the heat with every one of his releases this year. (Patrick)

Bronze Age – Coupling Symbols

Part of that baleful, aural assault that has proliferated recently, thanks mainly to the sounds conjured by the worlds of Blackest Ever Black and Hospital Productions. I know nothing about the source, apart from the fact his name is Kris Lapke (who's also active in the duo, Christian Cosmos with Dominick Fernow a.k.a. Vatican Shadow) but based on this, that's imminently going to change. Somehow more serenely exploratory in momentum and atmosphere than the likes of Raime, Silent Servant or Regis, but no less stunning, it features a slight ferment of sniping percession with a grand, filmic synth-eminence in a similiar vein and stature to the recent work of Blanck Mass (Benjamin John Power of Fuck Buttons project)

(Heard on the Blackest Ever Black NTS Radio mix and revisited constantly and obsessively since)

KYLE HALL & KERO – ZUG ISLAND / K2 ATTACK

Kyle Hall is one of the realest, rawest music makers around, and the future sound of Detroit, if you're asking me. With a close working relationship already developed with the aforementioned Funkineven (the two come together as funkinevil), he's also working with other producers (here he teams up with Kero) with a similarly startling, primal effect. Both these cuts are inspired by a disused, toxic metals factory outside of Detroit and you can hear the rusty metal and hulking, decaying machinery all over it. Not exactly relaxing daytime listening, but poweful, free range techno. Released on Hall's own Wild Oats label: Buy the 12 (Joe)

Tropics – Pop Up Cinema (Kelpe remix)

Slo-mo understated click-pop soul. Right little beauty from Kelpe. You know me, I love my pop! He's come on since his DC Recs days…

Breek – Burst EP
Ah those were the days… I believe it was called 'electronica'. Nothing particularly new or groundbreaking about this EP from Breek but sometimes that's not needed. As the sun breaks on another crisp autumnal morning this was a beautiful intro into my day. Viva electronica.
