First Listen: Machines In Heaven – Phenomenology Remixes (Curses & Paul Thomson)

Music

Following the release of their second album Phenomenology earlier this month, the Glasgow avant-funk trio Machines In Heaven return with an extra special remix package.

The first remix comes from Rinse France stalwart and former Verboten NYC resident Curses. He tidies up the percussion for an epic peak time Italo disco version of '20xx', all thumping kicks, celestial synth blasts and left-field funk bass.

Then another treat in the form of Franz Ferdinand drummer Paul Thomson's first ever remix under his PABS Debussy guise. His disco dub of 'Ruix Con' pulls the track back to earth and shifts the emphasis to that deliciously melodic bass line, framed by dusty claps and hazy synth clouds. Oh, and that morse code bleep breakdown that domiantes the second half? Pure brilliance.
