The bar was lined with shot glass after shot glass, each one emptied quickly by the raucous crowd that had set up camp there since doors opened. It was barely past lunch but many were already half cut. Over excitement had got the better of them, or perhaps they'd simply forgotten how to handle their drink after so long spent in lock down. But a few wobbles and several empty wallets didn't matter, it was the weekend and they had no prior engagements to attend to, except for those that involved a full glass...
After their sole release from 2004 was re-upped by none other than Solomun, French duo Kimshies decided to return to the studio last year after a 15 year hiatus. After two releases last year they make their debut on Mexico's Duro, the label run by Theus Mago AKA Bufi, with two original cuts that get the rework treatment from an all star cast. The distorted synths and acid lines of title track ‘Fucked Up Mama’ are twisted into new forms by Life & Death and Disco Halal label mate Autarkic, Belgium's Cabaret Nocturne and La Dame Noir alumni Arthur Johnson who offers up two takes; a driving upbeat re-imagination and a gritty analogue version.
