Hot on the heels of releases from Otik and Benjamin Muñoz, UK label Push & Run's next EP comes courtesy of London producer and bootleg king Hagan. While he's been a little quiet recently - his last release was the Lockdown EP on Beat Werk back in Jan 2016 - we're told he's spent the time honing his sound and focusing on why he started making music in the first place, and yeah, it totally shows. Heading towards a more stripped-down, groove-focused sound, Roots draws on global sounds such as afrobeat, baile funk and gqom as well as UK flavours like funky and grime.
The EP has already been receiving major support from the likes of Gilles Peterson and Toddla T, and we've got the premiere of killer closing track 'Aburi' - all throbbing bass and rattling drums, but with a precision and focus that marks it out as Hagan's best work yet. Listen below:
Roots is out 1st September on Push & Run.
