Hot Air Episode: #23 Dj Pippi Talks To Mike Boorman
DJ Pippi and Mike Boorman look back at 1980s Ibiza. Pippi became resident at Pacha in 1984, having first visited the island in 1978 to see Bob Marley’s legendary gig at the Plaza De Toros.
Pippi says he was the first DJ on the island to play house music, but is often missed out of the story. A full three years before Danny Rampling, Paul Oakenfold and Nicky Holloway came to Ibiza for their infamous lads’ holiday, Pippi was mixing the latest dance music in Pacha.
But Pippi has no axe to grind about the retelling of history. He was delighted to reminisce about some of the legendary Ibiza venues from the 70s and 80s, and he spoke with great enthusiasm about how the island changed once it was ‘discovered’ by British DJ culture.
