Type Sun – Last Home (DJ Nature remix)

I’m a big fan of DJ Nature’s soulful-gumbo approach to house music, Return of the Savage was probably my favourite LP of 2012. Type Sun is one to keep an eye on, rising from the fertile trenches of the Bristol scene to carve out his own particular niche as a soul man/beatsmith – he’s starting to get the recognition he deserves. So, this here is a marriage made in heaven – if I had to categorise it I’d file it under ‘Put the kettle on house’: slow burning, warm and comforting. The perfect antidote to this shit British winter. (Jammin Joe E)

Dan Hartman – Vertigo/Relight My Fire

I had the pleasure of visiting a guy I’d contacted via Discogs this weekend to look at his frankly mind-boggling collection of disco and soul, with this 1979 track from Dan Hartman being amongst the records I eventually picked up. A driving, crescendo-laden intro gives way to the tune that Take That made famous during the mid-90s and boy is it good. (‘P-Funk’ Henderson)
