Passarella Death Squad – Influences

Music

With just a few releases under their belt Passarella Death Squad have established themselves as power figures in the cultural realm. Most certainly within R$N's ears. Their latest rather fine release 'Anthem/Just Like Sleep' is available to stream now on R$N so we caught up with the pair for their influences of what keeps their musical minds ticking over. You can hear the double A side here.

Arthur Baker - Breaker's Revenge

Break dancing started everything for me, a night club in Newcastle called Tiffanys used to open on Saturday afternoon so people of all ages could go along, meaning at the age of around 12 I was listening to this kind music played on a loud sound system in a dark nightclub environment.

  • The The - Three Orange Kisses From Kazan

When I was young my sister had a cassette with This is the day on it which introduced me to The The, I feel Matt Johnson is such an underrated artist, both Soul Mining and Infected are amazing albums, for a short while I was obsessed with them.

  • Pil - Flower Of Romance

Such a great song, my favourite album artwork as well.

  • Lush - Sweetness And Light

Generally speaking I love anything on 4AD, so its hard to pick just one track.I love the vocals on this.

  • Frankie Knuckles - Your Love

The whole rave period changed my life,I really could of picked any one of 100s of tracks from this era but given our Anthemreference choosing this seems to make more sense, such a stunning record.

  • Depth Charge - Dead By Dawn

Im a huge fan of anything by J. Saul Kane, I wish hed release more music.Listening to Dead by dawn reminds me of the rave tapes we used to play back in the day.

  • Human League The Things That Dreams Are Made Of (dub)

My favourite record of all time! This and Pete Shelleys Witness The Change (Inst.) are just so good!Martin Rushent classics.

  • Andrea Parker - Melodius Thunk

Another artist who I feel is hugely underrated and another artist who I wish would release more music.

  • The Velvet Underground - All Tomorrow's Parties

Like most people, I love The Velvet Underground & the whole Andy Warhol / Edie / Factory thing. The most beautiful music and such fantastic lyrics.
