Influences: Free Range
In September Italian DJ and NTS resident Elena Colombi released the inaugural release on her new label Osàre! Editions, a word that translates in her native tongue as "daring" or "bold". This description set the tone for what we could expect from the label, starting with the debut record from American producer, DJ and CGI label boss Matt Weiner and Lithuanian experimentalist and Digital Tsunami co-founder Ernestas Sadau, who have come together under the guise of Free Range.
Their first EP King Of Snakes blends DIY electronics and new wave influences to create a sludgy, atmospheric collaboration that teeters on the brink of surrealism and retains that sense of abandon and freedom that Elena intends to peddle through the label in future.
We wanted to get to know Matt and Ernestas and the music that has had a huge impact on them from childhood through to present day, here they trace the tracks that have paved the way for them…
Buy King of Snakes.
ERNESTAS: All psychedelic stuff was around me when I was a kid because of my father who was and still is a fucking hippy.
