Music

Istanbul is a city caught amidst turbulent times, surrounded by the chaos of politics it is no easy place for a young creative, artist or musician. Ah! Kosmos is the pseudonym of Başak Günak. In 2013 she released her debut EP on Muzik Hayvanı, in the coming weeks she is set to release new music in the form of "Together We Collide".

As a hugely talented musician she has become a sculptor of sound design and has composed pieces for contemporary dance, plays, short films and art installations. She has also appeared alongside the likes of Darkside and James Holden.

Ahead of her new release on March the 3rd we caught up with her to talk eight tracks…

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - The Dead Flag Blues (Studio Version)

A profound poetic song. It’s beautiful to keep the ghosts away while on the road.

  • Kardes Turkuler - Kerwane

This song is for the souls who are displaced from their home..
Kardes Turkuler’s arrangements and compositional elements have always been a big influence on me.

  • Alice Coltrane - Journey In Satchidananda (1971) [Full Album]

The peacefulness of this piece is good for hearts. May help you to recall your crumbling pieces.

  • Ben Frost - Theory Of Machines

    A track full of ghosts!
I love how Ben Frost juxtaposes dark, subtle elements and nebulous atmosphere besides gently layered string texture.

  • Einstürzende Neubauten Sabrina

Hypnotic. A deep journey that that you can experience brooding effect.

  • Ali Farka Touré - Savane

I love the space in this beautiful piece and how it is breathing.

  • The Dresden Dolls - Girl Anachronism Live At The Roundhouse

Amanda Palmer’s strong presence.. A real ghost repellant!

  • Ahmet Aslan - Ya Xizire Xozati

Amazing artist. He is the founder of the instrument called La-Tar (Guitar-Saz) . It is a combination of classical guitar and Baglama. He sings in Zazaki and Turkish.
