8 Tracks: Of Fighting The Boredom With Willie Burns

Music

DJing and producing since the early 00s, Willie Burnett's debut releases on Crème Organization and Ron Morelli's L.I.E.S. brought his authentic take on machine driven house and techno to the fore. Better known as Willie Burns, subsequent releases on Unknown To The Unknown and Trilogy Tapes displayed a more layered, electronic sequenced sound. On his own WT Records label, he's just released two Moon Temple records (by ex-The Rapture's Gabriel Andruzzi), which he describes as "delicate interludes, acid stompers, and weirdo spastic mechanical marches". He's still making and playing some dirty, dark basement business too, as was apparent at his recent set for Snap Crackle & Pop in London. Here he shows us what he gets up to with his bests, when they have too much time on their hands. It's a pretty bizarre collection.

Moon Temple I & II are out now on WT Records HERE

Tracy Chapman - Fast Car [Wembley 1988]

I can’t imagine how she feels during this. A young performer at the beginning of her career and everyone knows the song and all the words. Would be overwhelming, yet she totally nails it.

  • Perspects - The Silent Treatment

Ian R. Clark, mostly know for the Ersatz Audio days, I think he might have even been a member of Le Car. I don’t know what he has been doing over the years, but this song and video are great.
I don’t know if this was ever released but man.. I wouldn’t like to be the person he is mad at. I think I heard that he has a new project with Jeffrey Sfire.

  • Magas - Toys - On Chic-A-Go-Go Tv Show 2003

Legendary video from Magas doing aerobics.
Jim Magas has been around forever in various bands and solo projects. He is from the U.P. of Michigan if I remember correctly. He now runs some newish labels, I can’t remember the names, but they put out cool stuff. This video is from a childrens TV show in Chicago. I think you can recognise some young faces in the background. Either way, I went on tour with him shortly after this and it reminds me of another time we played in Pittsburgh for like 3 people and he had some plywood on stage and he played peek-a-boo with it.

  • Russian Airbag Test! - Do Not Do This At Home!

Beau Wanzer showed me this and said it is his dad’s favourite YouTube.
We all chat on the internet with our friends and send them links. I’m not exactly sure how this came up, but one day Beau sent me this link. It is the stupidest and meanest thing I’ve seen, it’s like they almost kill the guy and they think its the funniest thing in the world. It pretty much blows his pants off.

  • India Talent Show - Warriors Of Goja

One late night YouTube session ended up with Sean McBride showing us this. He came over to my studio one night to socialise a little when I felt like procrastinating. He is also a touring musician kind of person so we have a lot to talk about… For whatever reason we got into a YouTube wormhole, but it wasn’t the usual “look at this obscure new wave video”, it ended up here.

  • Angel Teaching Her Grapefruit Technique

This one is disturbingly funny and sometimes referred to as “how to grapefruit your man”. NSFW
I can’t remember exactly how I found this. I think it was on Reddit… and it was some kind of meme for a short while. It’s one of those, “is it real or fake?”.. then you are like, “how can this be real?” but yeah.. I don’t know to this day, but that noise she makes, Jesus.. it’s pretty startling.

  • Mcdonalds Chicken Mcnuggets - Food Review

And this kid is just great… hours of fun…
This is more of a recent find. He reviews fast food, but not like the normal ones with the guy sitting in their car and yelling and stuff. He takes it very serious. The funniest part is when he eats. Like he will just sit there and eat, its really awkward, but charming in a way, I also can’t tell if he is serious or not. I can’t remember how much time I have spent watching this guy. Hours of calming fun.

  • Relics Of The Past Part 4 Skull Dude

Relics Of The Past is an outlandish TV series some freaks made…
4 part series that started as a way to fight boredom between weekend gigs. Originally just Legowelt, Overdose and I, we added some more characters and it became a little bit more pro. It seems kind of crappy and childish, but we actually worked very hard on it and did everything from the writing, editing, soundtrack, to the stunts. Great way to waste an hour or so.
