Ever since his Emerald Fantasy Tracks landed through my door mid-summer last year, I was hooked on the way of the Lone.

Known to his friends and family as Matt Cutler, over the past year, Nottingham-based producer Lone has undertaken quite the reinvention, leaving behind the hip-hop flavored abstraction and hazy beatscapes of his notable Ecstasy & Friends and Lemurian albums for a quicker-paced sound that’s much better suited for the dance floor.

Lone started life as a bedroom child producer in Nottingham experimenting with Hip Hop, early 90s Hardcore, Techno and Electronic music for years before dropping his lush, dream-hop dbut opus ‘Lemurian’ to critical acclaim. A remix of Bibio for Warp followed, whilst Werk Discs released the follow up album ‘Ecstasy & Friends’. Last years stunning second album Emerald Fantasy Tracks distilled so many different labels and influences into just 9 tracks, EFT explored the heavier sounds of Chicago house & Detroit Techno through to early Warp releases and 90′s London rave/hardcore with cinematic overtones. Aimed at destroying parties whilst staying true to his beautiful, nostalgic melodic style, the transformation just might be complete. Live and on record, he showcases upbeat vibes, warm synths, hands-in-the-air moments, unbridled energy and glowing enthusiasm that is simultaneously naive and self-aware in its ‘I’m just dancing with my eyes closed, but isn’t it so much fun?’ motif. Now he brings his dance party to EE and we hope it never stops!

Last summer’s single “Pineapple Crush” was the first demonstration of Cutler’s new-found love affair with Detroit techno and classic rave:
