Laurel Halo Returns For Her Third Lp On Hyperdub

Music

Laurel Halo’s eclectic electronica returns to Hyperdub with her upcoming album ‘Dust’. Lead single ‘Jelly’ features the vocals of Klein and Lafawndah, but the album also includes contributions from Julia Holter, Eli Keszler, Michael Salu, Craig Clouse, Max D, Michael Beharie and Diamond Terrifier.

This is the third LP from the Michigan-born, Berlin-based artist Laurel on mainstay imprint, Hyperdub. Lighter than compatriots ‘In Situ’ (2015) and Quarantine’ (2013), it's possibly the most felt and freeform a release from a production standpoint — less dance, dark and dubby than ‘In Situ’ and less engulfed in synth, reverb and long vocal lines like in ‘Quantine’.

Focusing on the textures between speech and singing, tonal percussion, as well and playing with track speed allowing freedom like that within jazz forms, it’s a bold record but one that feels controlled and indicative of her skill as a producer/songwriter.
