Kompakt’s Wolfgang Voigt To Release Comp Of ‘Protest’ Tracks

Wolfgang Voigt has a long history of pushing off kilter interventions in techno. From founding the PROFAN imprint back in 1993, to releasing skewed electronic renditions of Polka and pop music, the Kompakt boss has constantly attacked formal genre conventions. The last four years have seen him release a series of experimental 12"s that still looked to the dancefloor, via his PROTEST imprint. Pressed in strictly limited runs, the majority of these 12"s have long since sold out – now Voigt is compiling and releasing the greatest as Protest – Versammlung 1, featuring 10 Protest favourites alongside two new unreleased cuts. The material ranges from the quirky jazz techno of Kafkatrax 2.3 to the frankly weird Tuba powered Tubass tracks, with the whole album pushed along by Voigt's peculiar approach to rhythm – listen to Umbau below and you'll get the picture…
Protest – Versammlung 1 is released on Feb 16th – check the Kompakt site for further details
