Dark Entry Reissue Super Rare 80s Synth Wave & Industrial

Music

Two new albums are winging their way from the Dark Entries camp this February, Van Kaye + Ignit's A Slight Delay and Portion Control's I Staggered Mentally.

The Van Kaye & Ignit album is a real gem – original released on cassette in 1981, the collaboration between the two Dutch vocalists veers between Chris & Cosi style cold wave, and the gothic synth pop of early Depeche Mode. All the tracks are brittle, corrosive works, with the drum machines ticking and scratchy, and the synths washed out fades of grandeur. Highly recommended for anyone looking for something that combines the wild avant garde aesthetics with a twisted pop sensibility.

Portion Control are a UK industrial 3 piece, formewd in South London in 1980 and cited as a big influence on Skinny Puppy and the aformentioned Depeche Mode. I Staggered Mentally is their debut LP from 1982, now reissued with an 8 page full colour booklet. The trio were at the sharp edge of electronic creation – the kit they were using had barely been invented before they started abusing it – lead synths and effects were created with the Roland SH-09 and RS-09, whilst the rhythm section was provided by the Roland TR-606 and the then brand new TB-303 Bassline.
