Awesome Tapes From Africa To Reissue Umoja’s “707”

The record label will release the EP on the 5th of May later this year. Originally recorded in the 1980's in South Africa the release is a cosmic blend of disco, soul and pop. Umoja were one of the key figures in a genre which has since become known as 'Bubblegum Music' with the group recording their music during the violent era of apartheid in Africa. 

Khaoli, a instrumentalist with the group, describes the music as follows:

“If you had grown up in South Africa at the time, there was nothing more in your life than oppression. It was even in your dreams. Anything that was a way out was welcome… When this music was playing everyone just wanted to dance, just have a good time.”
