Catalepsia (Days of Being Wild) – THE RANSOM NOTE MIX

Music
Our love of the excellent Days of Being Wild label is already documented. Check our recent Label Love feature here. DOBW has blossomed into highly respected purveyor of top quality music for the feet and ears… With that in mind, we asked one third of the label Catalepsia to give us an aural flavour of their sound. We'lll let him talk you through it.

Where are you:

Right now I'm in my "daylight" job office đŸ™‚

Where was the mix recorded?
I'm in my so called studio / office at home. A big room where many records / books are stored. It's also a room where my little ones are doing handicraft stuff, drawings and sometimes watch movies.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?
Beside being a DJ and producer, I'm also a runner so I guess this can be used to train or race. I can't run without music so I'm always looking forward to listen full LP^s or very long DJ mix. So have a try; it starts slowly to warm up to reach some kind of climax.

What should we be wearing
Not much, it's hot out there! And when you run you should apply the +10 degrees theory.

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format.
I'm not a technology freak so the format doesn't really matter. But location could be really important, somewhere small, dark, sweaty, some kind of basement / cave… Charada in Madrid is ace for this. Super sound system, proximity with the crowd. Real music lovers.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?
You can't ask me do choose! I had 89 tracks shortlisted for this podcast. I could have done 5 or 6 hours podcast.. these are my current favourites!!!

Whats your favourite recorded mix of all time?
I have really sweet memories for this Mixmag mix made by Laurent Garnier in 1994.

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?
Without being original I would say, David Mancuso in his loft. For the eclecticism, diversity and the laid back attitude! I think these days, DJ's are taking less and less risks therefore we are left in niches / boxes, which is really sad.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?
2 ways mixer and turntables without pitch, I was also using two cassette players for stuff recorded on the radio!

Whats more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?
I'm a big fan of late / super early sets therefore the answer is the end track. Even if for this particular mix it's not something out of the box but this edit of James Holden made by Franois left me speechless…

What were the first and last records you bought?
Honestly I don't remember, but I do remember getting my first Walkman together with a tape of Alphaville's "Foreever Young". Last one is Follakzoid "II".

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?
One of my favorite dish: Osso Bucco with fresh tagliatelle with a glass of Pic StLoup (Red wine from an area close to Montpelier).

If it was an animal what would it be?
We have a wolf on our sleeves, so…

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything
Probably some old hardcore / gabber white label 12" from my early DJ days.. đŸ™‚
And that as they say is that. Get yer lug oles round the above. Get it on.
