Music

Based out of Lyon Arthur Galliot has established himself as one of the French city's most interesting disc jockeys and producers across the past couple of years.

As the founder of the Light On Earth imprint he has released two eclectic EP's which meander between the realms of deep house, breaks and tribal – he has helped to breathe life into the city's electronic music scene alongside a number of counterparts. Weaving between elements of disco, soul, funk, house, techno and rave he has amassed a far reaching reputation and his music has helped channel a new string of creatives and peaked interest in the city on the river.

Please introduce yourself… Who are you, where are you and what are you?  What does your music sound like? Can you draw what you think it sounds like for us (an image from the old internet is acceptable)?

Hey. My name is Arthur, but also Sentiments, as a dj name. I live in the east French city of Lyon, and i'm a kind of… human? dj ? producer ? label owner ? I'm working on frequencies and dancefloor. This is an image of how i would like my music sound like.

Where was the mix recorded?

I recorded this mix in our Lyl Radio Lyon studio. Quiet place & safe material. I usually help there.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

I think you can listen to it while jogging, or at work or what ever you want. But actually it's a dance music session so basically, a living room party with friends ?

What should we be wearing?

Clean underpants is enough. Then all are welcome.

What would be your dream setting to record a mix: Location/system/format?

I think I'd love a kind of green landscape with some organic dj equipments made of trees. Speakers could be giant flowers and the sky full of flying sheep. But stop dreaming.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

I love this house gem from the time of nu grooves records… DTR – How Many Times

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

A collection of sequenced beats from Mark Gage is one of my top fav I can surely quote. The highlights of liquid dream jungle. I remember five years ago listen to this mix every weeks. What a narration.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

My first dj setup 13 years before was pretty basic : windows xp, virtual dj. I'm now a bit more professional : technics 1210, cdj 350 and rodec mixbox mk2.

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

Both. I spend a lot of time thinking to the track i'll open the mix with. And I always pray myself to find the good one at the end! How you open it, how you close it. It's how you're able to mix silence and music. And I mean real transistion.

What were the first and last records you bought?

As long as I remember the first 12' I bought was El-B, El Brand. And probably last one is this BFDM017 I played in the mix.

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Hard question. I usually do not talk with my mouth full.

If it was an animal what would it be?

Another hardcore one. I guess this podcast starts like a rhino. And at a moment, the rhino turns into a red flying zebra and then a rainbow mix between a coyote and a lizard. Next time I'll do a chicken fry mix.

Anything else we need to discuss?

We finished some new tracks, ready to be released in october via Light On Earth. I'm super excited. It's gonna be I kind of european 80's single full of remixes. I'll start the promo in september.
