Local Suicide – The Ransom Note Mix

Music

It seems as though some music-makers talk to each other and apparently Local Suicide, the curators of this week's Ransom Note Mix, are good friends with other R$N favourites Red Axes, Katzi & Asaf and the legendary Moscoman. Fancy that. This pair seem to have their heads screwed on right and have all the morals in about as close to the right places as they can be in such a world as this one. With that in mind, we couldn't wait for them to provide us with a mix and we reckon you'll enjoy it quite a bit. Get this stuck in your ears while you read on to find out everything you could ever want to know (ish…) about Local Suicide;

Please introduce yourselves…

Who are you, where are you and what are you?

Local Suicide (Vamparela from Thessaloniki, Greece & Brax Moody from Munich, Germany). Based in Berlin. DJ & Producer Duo, Blog, Radio Show & Event Promoters.

How would a food critic review your music?

Vamparela: **** Extraordinary / Transcendent. A one-of-a-kind experience that sets the standard. Top class ingredients, big variety and very original menu, great presentation.

What was the first electronic record you ever heard? How did it make you feel?

Vamparela: I felt like I just won the Olympic Games.

Brax Moody: Loved the video

When did you last lose your head?

Vamparela: When we met each other 7 years ago!

What's your local shop like?

Vamparela: Like the Little Shop of Horrors

Should we be afraid of the big bad wolf?

Vamparela: Only of the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland

How low can you go?

Vamparela: Very underground and pretty deep!

If your sound was a visual thing, what would it look like?

Vamparela: Pink flamingos in tuxedos wearing sunglasses at night flying over a blue lagoon somewhere where it’s always summer.

Brax Moody: A wave, rides, builds up and breaks to float on.

When was the last time you played a good game of table tennis?

Brax Moody: About a year ago in the office with a colleague, a regular office table & 2 jewel cd cases. He won.

Vamparela: We tend to play more with buttons! But when it comes to table games we prefer kicker.

How many times in your life have you tripped over?

Vamparela: Countless, still never over a banana peel!

What's the biggest animal you think you could beat in a fight? Would you fight it?

Brax Moody: A fat, lazy & hairy one, and no I wouldn’t.

Vamparela: We’re all about peace!

Why do birds suddenly appear?

Vamparela: It's all Alfred Hitchcock's fault! My little phobia against flying birds appearing suddenly as well!

Have you ever been down to Kokomo? I hear it's nice…

Brax Moody: No, but we’ve been surfing the U.S.A. Vamparela: Not yet, but because of The Beach Boys I always wanted to go. Almost as much as I would love to visit the Seychelles, because of Polina.

Onto the mix…

Where was the mix recorded?

Brax Moody: At a new club in Berlin which is called Beate Uwe, which has one of the best sound systems in the city & a rotary mixer. We recently launched there our joint event series called T.O.F.U. (Too Old For Understatement).

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

Vamparela: At a beach party during sunrise.

Brax Moody: At home or a friend’s place, before going out.

What should we be wearing?

Brax Moody: Cowboy boots, bathrobe & sunglasses.

Vamparela: If you're a girl, your teeny weeny polka dot bikini – If you're a guy, a tight speedo.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

Brax Moody: Heretic’s Pollux which was released on NEIN Records a few weeks ago with massive remixes by Andrew Weatherall & Hardway Bros.

Vamparela: Moscoman – De Vogue (Manfredas Remix) out soon on Renate Schallplatten. Dream combination!

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

Vamparela: Too many to choose from, but here is one I have listened to loads of times:

Ivan Smagghe's BBC6 mix

Brax Moody: Apparat RA Podcast from 2012

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

Vamparela: Patrick Cowley, it would be a challenge to make the most energetic blissful mix ever.

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

Vamparela: cassettes for my radio show, when I was a teenager.

Brax Moody: A double tape deck, then a shitty rack CD player. Right now we are playing with Traktor Controllers Z1,X1 & F1 + Mic or for special occasions with Vinyl.

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

Brax Moody: Definitely the one we start on Vamparela: Everything inbetween!

What were the first and last records you bought?

Brax Moody: A Maxi Single CD of Gigi D’Agostino’s ‚Bla Bla Bla’ / last one: Müller & Roedelius ‘Imagori’ out on Grönland Records.

Vamparela: Madonna 'Like A Virgin’

and the last: XEN – Bells out on Malka Tuti

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Brax Moody: Something chewy, a bit sweet with an oriental after taste.

Vamparela: Something u can’t just have one bite, you always crave for more and you could have it any time, for breakfast, lunch, dinner, late night snack…In my case a chocolate and fresh berries cake!

If it was an animal what would it be?

Almost extinct Yellow-eared Parrot.

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

Brax Moody: Danzig – Mother

Vamparela: B52’s – Rock Lobster

Upcoming in the world of Local Suicide?
