Heavenly Jukebox – The Ransom Note Herbman On Holiday Mix

Music

With what is probably one of the most well-travelled jukeboxes in the world, Danny and Carl (two of the people behind the infamous Heavenly Jukebox) make their way around the fiesta season in a whirlwind non-stop tour which provides soundtracks to festivals far and wide. They're also a pair of fools – without beards these days thank god – that have been associated with us for far too long for anyone's good. Before they take their musical bandwagon off to Field Day this weekend they've provided us with their 'Herbman On Holiday Mix' and, surprisingly enough, we think it's pretty brilliant. Whack the volume up to full and read on as we fire them questions over like a question-filled machine gun. Lord help us all;

Do you come here often?

Last time was before Glastonbury 2011 I think.

When was the last time you touched your toes?

Customs.

What's the coolest thing that you're hoping they have in heaven?

A heaven.

How would you define 'having a quiet one'?

By not telling anyone.

How big is your blender?

We've not got one of those nutri-wotsits if that’s what your asking.

Who makes you question your very being?

You have.

You're off to Field Day this weekend – what are we going to get from you there?

A vast improvement on last year hopefully.  One half of the jukebox got a little over excited about midday and decided to run with it.

What's happened to Danny's hair?

A snake has to shed’s it’s skin.

When did one of you last fall off the stage? (All eyes on Danny…)

He falls onto the stage.

How many times have you woken up in a field?

Unintentionally? It’s been known to happen.

How deep is your love?

We’re inseparable.

Onto the mix…

Where was the mix recorded?

Live in the basement of The Social.

What should we be wearing?

Appropriate footwear.

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

The mix ends with M.Ruthers' Stealing Sheep remix of Deadlock. Mark is an old mate and brilliant producer, also one of the funniest men ever. Only reason I go on Facebook. Love Mark! Love this remix too, I think it’s been quite a while since Heavenly has commissioned a drum n bass remix but it just felt right for Deadlock.

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

Shortkut – ‘Inna Danchall Stylee’.

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

Stephen Saunders – RIP.

Stephen sadly passed away a few weeks ago. Truly one of the nicest people we’ve ever met with the most amazing music and even better smile. Such a sad loss, we’re all gutted. Love to Dean, Studio 45 crew and Stephen’s family xx

What was your first DJ set up at home and what is it now?

1200s and a mixer. Same.

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

How you leave it definitely – I love DJs who leave it in a nice place for the next DJ. Polite.

What were the first and last records you bought?

Paul Hardcastle ’19’.

'Sex Judas’ 12”.

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

Seawater.

If it was an animal what would it be?

Flemish Giant rabbit.

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

Anything Danny’s put on.

Upcoming in the world of Heavenly?

Hosting stages and djing at these brilliant festivals: Field Day, Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Caught by the River Teifi, Green Man, End of The Road, On Blackheath and more.

It’s Heavenly 25th anniversary year and so we’ve been celebrating with a load of special events and parties and the largest roster of bands we’ve ever worked with.

Anything else we need to discuss?

Your wardrobe Wil.
