Gemini Brothers – The Ransom Note Double header Mix Special

Music

Sometimes you just can't decide if you're quite in the mood to go all out DOOF DOOF. Never fear, Gemini Brothers have come up with the perfect solution to your scenario by creating both a DOOF DOOF and an experimental mix to set your ears on fire.

Recently we gave you the first glimpse of the new EP on the way via Tici Taci next week so we thought it would be a good idea to delve into their world and find out a little more about this devilish duo that have been so kind as to provide us with double the aural pleasure required;

WHO ARE YOU?

We are twin brothers who are passionate about music and record collecting.

WHERE ARE YOU?

We live in Bucharest.

WHAT ARE YOU?

Two fine gentlemen wearing scarves, hats, braces and some says we look identical! We used to when we were children, now we have cut our hair differently but otherwise…

WHERE WERE THE MIXES RECORDED?

At our headquarters near Bucharest. Maybe I should say how was the weather too? It was a really fine day to drink beer on a terrace outside.

WHAT WOULD BE THE IDEAL SETTING TO LISTEN TO EACH MIX?

For the experimental one we recommend you take a driving session outside any city. A fine drive, no rush, no traffic, just you, your car and our mix. For the party session we guess the perfect atmosphere would be in an apartment with your friends, having just come from a nice party and need a mix for the afterparty! Waving hands, heads and bass guitar movements in the air around you!

WHICH MIX DO YOU THINK IS BEST?

We'd never, until now, done an experimental session so we can start with this one.

WHAT SHOULD WE BE WEARING?

Something light! If it’s summer our recommendation is a James Bond style plus a Panama classic hat! It’s a must! For dirty UK rainy weather we don’t care as soon as you drive an Austin Healey 3000 MKIII.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE RECORDED MIX OF ALL TIME?

Hmmm… Quite hard to have a favourite as most of them were really welcomed and we had great feedback! We can go with our ‘Golden Pleasures’ special mix we made for our Elektra Complex friends due to our gig we had last year in November for their Discosodoma night.

WHAT'S THE BEST THING ABOUT MAKING MUSIC THAT GOES DOOF DOOF?

See the below answer!

HOW DO YOU GO ABOUT MAKING THE FINEST AMBIENT MUSIC?

Not into it! We like to make dance music to see people make silly moves on the dancefllor. Doof Doof, to be honest.

DID YOU KNOW THAT DOOF BACKWARDS IS FOOD? WHICH IS BETTER?

Never thought some dance music had this so called “Doof” name! Hahaha… Still, we’re not so gourmands, trying to stay in a good shape, but we quite appreciate Mediterranean cuisine, French wine and Irish whisky… Doof Doof!

WHAT WERE THE FIRST AND LAST RECORDS YOU BOUGHT?

First was like 14 years ago, took a bench of hard techno in that period and these were the most played ones:

Thomas Krome – Shockabuku Vol. 1 out on Corb Records

Andrew McLauchlan ‎– Love Story out on Bush Records

The last ones were Devils Paintbrush – Barton Springs Sampler and Ron Hardy – RDY #20.

IF THIS MIX WAS AN EDIBLE THING, WHAT WOULD IT TASTE LIKE?

Prefer a good bourbon comparison, let’s say some J.R. Ewing (from Dallas, for those who don’t know the series) special fine drink, just before making some oil business.

IF IT WAS AN ANIMAL WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Polar bears or penguins! Funny ones living in a fresh air environment!

UPCOMING IN THE WORLD OF GEMINI BROTHERS?

OK… Good place to make some promo here!

Still promoting the forthcoming EP which is out May 18th on Tici Taci called ‘Eridu Eridu’ with amazing feedback and support, then June is a full month with things out on Nein Records, a new EP called ‘Bazaar Dilem’ with remixes from our almighty Mexican sister Lokier and our Spanish brother Teniente Castillo (from Play Pal Music) plus a remix for the nu-disco dons DJ Rocca & Daniele Baldelli for ‘Nein Oh Nein’ compilation.

ANYTHING ELSE WE NEED TO DISCUSS?

Politics in the UK? Or in Europe? I know you just had Parliament elections last week, right? Seen the UKIP party didn’t do too well, I know them as Mr. Farage said that will be a Romanian invasion after the work permits for Romanians were announced. But this is already a different discussion which at some point maybe we will have in detail (really into the “Dave Clarke Talks” interview, related to this matter).

Eridu Eridu is out on 18th May via Tici Taci.
