Etienne Jaumet (aka Zombie Zombie)- The Ransom Note Mix
As 2015 gets into full flow and the period of wishing people 'Happy New Year' thankfully comes to a close, we're able to get back into the swing of things by bringing you the year's premiere Ransom Note Mix which comes courtesy of Etienne Jaumet.
Jaumet has had a pretty hectic few years which have included a number of collaborations as well as releasing an album and an original movie soundtrack under his alter ego Zombie Zombie. His most recent album, 'La Visite', sees him return to his familiar tools of synths and sax, adding a jazzy tint to an array of dance music selections. To celebrate his mix (which you can hear below), we asked him a few questions;
Who are you?
My parents called me Etienne Jaumet.
Where are you?
Here in Paris, France.
What are you?
Sometimes a Zombie.
Where was the mix recorded?
At home, surrounded by my record collection.
What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?
A journey into an unknown landscape.
What should we be wearing?
Rain suits.
What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?
The first one.
What were the first and last records you bought?
Piotr Kurek 'Edena'.
If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?
A taste of French, American, English and Italian food.
Does this mix offer a reflection on the kind of sound we can expect from your new solo work?
That’s true… but it's only a facet of it: my album is more clubby.
And, staying in the new album, when did you decide you were going to make a solo record? Was it a sudden decision or a gradual process?
I had only 2 months of free time during the summer 2013 in between all my collaboration projects. So I decided to prove to myself I could record and compose an album on my own.
Did it come easily?
I didn't expect it to, but yes. I tried to compose each song in one day…
What’s happening with Zombie Zombie? Will they return?
Hahaha, yes we have already composed several new songs…
Finally, I once saw Courtney Pine play two saxophones simultaneously, can you do that? Or is he just showing off?
I will try tomorrow… Rahasan Roland Kirk use to play with three and it was beautiful!!!
'La Visite' is out now.
