Campsteppa & DJ Tasty: The Wednesday Alternative Mix

Music

Separated from the weekend by three days in either direction, it's no wonder that Wednesday is often regarded as the toughest part of the working week. Thankfully, we've got the perfect tonic in the form of this mix from dynamic duo Campsteppa and DJ Tasty – an hour-long journey through various strains of dub, roots, reggae and dancehall.

DJ Tasty is one of the residents at Refuge, a series of fundraising events in Berlin, working in solidarity with refugee and homeless organisations in the city. Their next event takes place 2nd October at OHM with Kate Miller, Phuong-Dan and Neele.

Please introduce yourself… Who are you, where are you and what are you?

DJ Tasty – at home in Berlin – human person.
Hello. Campsteppa – London – out of my depth.

Where was the mix recorded?

Some very nice folk's studio in London.

What would be the ideal setting to listen to the mix?

Somewhere calm, with a nice seat, bass-y.

What should we be wearing?

Soft shoes

Which track in the mix is your current favourite?

DJT: Judy Mowatt – 'Black Woman'
CS: Major King – 'Jahovia'

What’s your favourite recorded mix of all time?

Made Inc. – Picture Disc

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

No Plastic. He has very nice records and makes a mean soup.

What’s more important, the track you start on or the track you end on?

Both equal – start on a banger, end on a banger.

What were the first and last records you bought?

First: Donna Summer – 'She Works Hard for the Money'
Last: G.O.D. Limited 4 – 'Watch Ya Bass Bins'

If this mix was an edible thing, what would it taste like?

A nutritious root vegetable

If it was an animal what would it be?

Sea turtle

One record in your collection that is impossible to mix into anything?

DJT: Anything's possible
CS: Most of my record collection

Anything else we need to discuss?

Refuge is a series of fundraising events working in solidarity with refugee and homeless organisations in Berlin, and has been operating for the last three years, with events in the best clubs around the city. The next event is next week on Tuesday 2 October; all funds will go to the following local organisations:

– Berliner Obdachlosenhilfe e.V.
Berlin Homelessness Association – providing vital support to people on the street.

– Schilleria
An organisation working in Schillerkeiz since 2002, offering empowerment and recreation rooms for girls and young women from the age of 7.

– Solizimmer-Initiative Berlin
