Josh Wink Talks

Music

This weekend Josh Wink is back in town, bringing his squiggly, forward looking techno back to Fabric's main room. Returning himself firmly to the 'writes bangers' club with 2013's speaker slaying Balls, Wink has been on peak form since, consolidating his position with 2014's equally thumping Talking To You. Twenty years into his career and it looks like there's plenty of techno left in Wink yet…

Where are you now?

On my couch in Philadelphia.

How did you get your break in the industry?

I didn't get a break, I was making music for a long time before people really starting buying the music and hits were created by the DJs playing the music.

If your sound was a visual thing, what would it look like?

Sandpaper with melted caramel sauce on top!

What can we expect to hear from you at fabric? Have you got anything special planned?

I have some unreleased music that I have been working on and what better way to test it out than on a great crowd on a great system. Otherwise, my sets are spontaneous. So, it's always a vibe thing where my sets go.

What's your favourite thing about performing in London?

The crowds are always very metropolitan and mixed. People from all over the world come out!

If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

Either medicine or something with food.

Who/What’s the next big thing?

I don't know.

What is your greatest regret?

Turning down an offer to be U2's touring DJ during the Pop Tour.

How do you relax?

Taking off on an airplane. The moment when the plane takes off of the ground, this is a moment to exhale and relax.

What one piece of software or hardware could you not make music without?

Ableton Live.

What was the first electronic record you ever heard?

Kraftwerk's Trans Europa Express.

What are you obsessed with at the moment?

I'm not obsessed.

Anything else you'd like to add?

New music coming soon!
