Influences: Tin Man

Music

Who loves acid more than us? Tin Man does.

Johannes Auvinnen has long been a favourite producer of ours, his ability to manipulate and warp a sense of elegance from machinery and hardware is truly unique. He captures emotion and presents it alongside wizardry and percussion. It's all very good indeed. He has previously released on the likes of ACID TEST, Volvox's Jack Dept, Berlin's Killekill and 030303. However, now he is back to return to his own label as he has invited a wide array of friends to collaborate and remix his own acid tinged work. Titled 'Acid Friend' the album features twenty nine respective tracks and each carries a sense of individuality and character.

We invited Tin Man to cite influences and he does so in good taste whilst reflecting on personal inspiration.

Riuichi Sakamoto Participation Mystique

YMO and early Sakamoto works inspired me with there melodic electronic sounds. I like the edgier use of synths, samplers, and effects for a sound design that very cohesive musically but had a disconcerting edge.

  • Pan Sonic - Radiokemia

Pansonic has been a huge influence for me. They were my favorite live act. Vakio, as other albums from Pansonic, was as raw as it gets. Just bare hypnotic shaking beautiful dread.

  • Mouse On Mars - Chagrin

I loved this dubbed out blissful slow house when it came out. Mouse on Mars played with some quirky acid alien sounds that were odd, but very cute and cuddly.

  • Prince - I Would Die 4 U

I like how brought his funky drum machine with lots of effects to the front and had really punchy synths driving the emotion. I have copied this synth patch a few times on my Juno-60.

  • Isolée - 'Beau Mot Plage' (Original)

This joyful song inspired me to try to make hypnotic and melodic acid. My song Drifter’s Acid was me trying to copy this vibe.

  • Wata Igarashi - Spirits In The Rain

Lately, Wata Igarashi, has been inspirational for me with his psychedelic techno which is always tinged with a style of acid which is very vaporous.

  • Voices From The Lake - Max

This song inspired me because it a cover of an artist who captures people with beautiful melodies, Paulo Conte, and it lives in a blissed out acidcushion.

  • Mr. Fingers - Ammnesia

Larry Heard is a huge inspiration to me. A friend gave me this record when I was 20. He told me “it’s both very soft and very hard at the same time.” I agree. Larry Heard’s work has a huge emotional resonance for me.

  • The Paragons - We Were Meant To Be

John Holt is my favorite songwriter from Jamaica. He gave romantic American soul music a very sweet twist.

  • Depeche Mode - Blue Dress (Remastered)

The Violator album was a big inspiration for me production wise. Its one of the few late 80s synth records that I still listen to and try to imitate the synth and production style.
