From the depths of Estonia...

Raul Saaramets is not a name well known... However, it should be.

The Estonian musician, digger, disc jockey, instrumentalist, radio programmer, drummer and beyond has been a prominent figure within underground music for many years now with connections reaching far and wide. His interest in sound runs deep and he is well respected across a variety of musical spheres. He has worked as a punk/rock drummer and a rock artist as a member of a respectable local group Röövel Ööbik and as a radio programmer at Raadio 2 in Estonia.

Beyond this he has also played a pivotal role in experimental electronic music within the country as a promoter, club programmer and dj. He has released music on the likes of Jon Rust's Levels alongside Andrevski, Porridge Bullet / Pudru Kuul and Umblu. His edits have been remarkably popular and have been championed on dancefloors the world over.

He is set to release a new EP on Red Rack Em's Bergerac before the end of the year. We invited him to pick influences...

Soft Machine - Soft Space (1978)

I only found about this piece some years ago. Never been too much into Soft Machine, more of a Yes and early Floyd man but this is great - techno from 1978.
