John Heckle – Trema (Mathematics)

I have a huge, sloppy musical crush on John Heckle. The king of weird, wibbly-wobbly acid. The lord of “doin it proper”. Here he teams up once again with Jamal Moss’s awesome Mathematics imprint for 4 tracks of diverse electronic music that leave you in no doubt that he is at the top of his game. There’s plenty of range on offer here; funky Detroit leanings, clattering electronic rhythms and spacious and heart wrenching ambience. Not many people are doing it as good as this guy at the moment.

Ethyl & Flori – Swimming (E&F Records)

Ethyl and Flori have recently started up a record label together, cryptically named E&F Records. Turns out it’s pretty decent as it goes. They’ve just dropped their second installment, which comprises of three deep but oomf-laden techno chuggers. All of the tracks offer something different; “Swimming” is dreamy, “Tarantulum” is floaty, but the pick for me is “Kuju Rising” has a lovely deep bass kick overlaid with a pulsing, ever present, metallic chug that’s going to work a peach on any dancefloor.

T Connection/Jimmy McGriff – Do What You Wanna Do/Tailgunner (TK Disco)

So TK Disco are continuing with their run of reissues/updates/throwbacks with this slice of pure disco quality. They’ve also enlisted two of the big dogs of the current disco scene to get on the re-edit with both Kon and Todd Terje turning out quality cuts. Two Kon edits of “Do What you Wanna Do” are pure bounce while on the flip we have Todd Terje’s cut of Jimmy McGriff’s Tailgunner which is a chunky monster with Hammond licks that’ll make you cream. There’s a whole bunch of these reissues dropping at the moment and they’re well worth a look.
