Khruangbin: 8 Tracks From Sunset To Sundown, Farm To Market Road

Music

"Some of our road-trip favourites to keep you company as the sun travels below the Western horizon."

Khruangbin are the best (possibly only) Thai-funk band outta Texas. You might have noticed we're big fans of them at R$N Towers. Their new album 'The Universe Smiles Upon You Now' is a psychedelic journey, perfect for sitting out on your front porch and watching the stars.

Influenced by the vast spaciousness of the Texan landscape, as they are by their collection of Thai cassettes from the 60s and 70s, we have the great honour of them sharing some of their road-trip favourites. Ears, enjoy.

Keep up to date with Khruangbin on Facebook and Soundcloud. 'The Universe Smiles Upon You Now'  is out now on Late Night Tales.

Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly ~ Golden Time Of Day (1978)

Maze will always have a special place in the hearts of Khruangbin.
Who doesn’t love Maze, and the ever featured Frankie Beverly. This
song puts it all in place; it’s universal and self-reflective. Top
down, clear skies, no traffic, driving west into the
sunset.

  • Sopwith Camel - Fazon (1973)

Fazon is Esperanto for “phases”. The phases of life. You’re
driving, long road ahead, your mind begins to wander. The hypnotic
rumble of the tires on the road, the wind whipping by. Passing road
signs, you might wonder how that town got its name? Where did the
people come from? What did they leave behind? Isn’t the history of
human beings that of movement and exploring the unknown?

  • Isley Brothers - Coolin' Me Out

Time to cool out a bit now, we were getting a lil too deep into our
heads. Let the Isley brothers bring you back to reality.

  • Scientist - No Dub Island

There’s something about the spaciousness aesthetic of dub.
Infinitely groovy, the disembodied vocal flying around your head,
the pure bass tones connecting with your body. Somebody once told
me dub was the best driving music, I would agree. The miles just
    fly by.

  • Extra Golden - Ilando Gima Onge

Let’s just get down to it: We love Extra Golden. One of the best
shows we’ve ever been to, hands down.

  • Dorothy Ashby-Come Live With Me

Harp with a deadly groove. It’s as if the sky opened up and the
beams of heaven were shining upon you. Get lost in this
    song.

  • Kim Jung-Mi - Spring

An incredibly cinematic tune by Kim Jung Mi, the psychedelic
    chanteuse of South Korea.

This song reminds me of the badlands of west Texas, just as the
road begins to wind through the desert.

  • Mahmoud Ahmed - Tezeta (Ethiopiques Volume 7)

Tezeta is a word meaning ‘memory’, ‘nostalgia’ and ‘longing’ ..
Even if you don’t speak Amharic, the melodies in this classic song
by the great Mahmoud Ahmed speak on a universal level. A perfect
    lullaby as darkness sets.
