8 Tracks Of: Post Club Sofa Melters with Chekov

Music

Towards the tail end of 2018 we were greeted by a release from the fabulous Cong Burn camp, a label with which we have been wholeheartedly fond of for a long while now given the high quality output and commitment to showcasing fresh faced talent. Chekov featured on a split EP which caught our eyes and ears. Upon further digging we realised that perhaps we'd been left in the dark given that his music had already been previously championed and supported by the likes of Timedance and Peach Discs elsewhere.

A dynamic producer his approach to dance and electronic music is suitably abstract and intriguing, drawing upon inspiration from EBM and IDM alongside heady influencers, the likes of Ben UFO and Pearson Sound for example.

Now the Leeds producer is set to return to Cong Burn with on a new EP which focuses on the hypnotic, the mood and the deep. Peculiar dancefloor excursions with as much food for thought as feet.

We invited him to take us through eight tracks below.

Spacemen 3 - So Hot (Wash Away All Of My Tears)

After falling back in love with Ladies & Gentlemen.. last year, I just finally got around to exploring Jason Pierce’s earlier band, Spacemen 3. Floating and yearning, this track’s perfect at the end of a particularly special night

  • Spacemen 3 - So Hot (Wash Away All Of My Tears)

After falling back in love with Ladies & Gentlemen.. last year, I just finally got around to exploring Jason Pierce’s earlier band, Spacemen 3. Floating and yearning, this track’s perfect at the end of a particularly special night

  • Parris - Puro Rosaceaes

Each sound here is so delicate but so perfectly interwoven with all others around it. The groove rolls out as the pads soothe your mind and refresh your thoughts after a long night.

  • Arthur Russell - Just A Blip

One for if it’s been an odd night for whatever reason (though I usually find myself drifting towards Arthur anyway given enough time ha.

  • Lv Feat Dandelion: Cctv (Hyperdub)

I also tend to end up in the dubstep corner of Youtube given half a chance; this track I’ve been revisiting a lot lately!

  • Laurel Halo - Supine

Part of the soundtrack to a recent post-pub chat with my dad, sharing music we’d both come across that month. Nights like this have informed a ton of my taste, particularly with music beyond the club.

  • Model 500 - Starlight (Moritz Mix Aka Maurizio Remix 1995)

Gota be some Basic Channel etc at some point! This one’s lovely as you notice the sun’s peeking out.

  • Fka Twigs - Two Weeks

Everything about this LP I adore.. still! The vocals and production on this track in particular are stunning, sucking you into its own swirly wormhole. Either Pendulum or Two Weeks would be my last sofa bluetooth choice before giving into sleep.

  • Velvet Underground-"Sunday Morning"

It’s somehow only this year that I’ve really welcomed The Velvet Underground into my life! I already now have fond memories of once sticking on this album as my partner and I cleared up from the night before and opened the curtains again to sunlight.
