8 Tracks: Of Footwork & Beyond with A.Fruit

Music

Anna Fruit is a Russian producer and disc jockey with a wealth of talent, based in Moscow she has steadily been releasing music on the likes of Teklife, Hyperboloid, Med School, Sequel One Records and Black Marble Collective. Her own musical outlook is not stereotypically perhaps what you might expect from someone in this part of the world but over the years she has become a pioneering force in jungle, footwork and drum 'n' bass in the present. Having discovered Ableton live during her time at Moscow State university she then pursued an education in sound engineering and has since gone on to produce electronic music for television and video games beyond her own independent output.

A fierce talent with a passion for discovery and expression, she has become one of the most innovative and inspiring figures to emerge from the Russian electronic music scene in recent times, bringing with her a new take on the preconception of genre and style in the musical community.

We invited Anna to select eight tracks, originally of footwork but somewhere along the way this mutated into 160bpm experiments and beyond. Just how we like it.

Dj Rashad- Ccp

When I hear this tune, I only want to smile and dance like a weirdo, thinking about flowers and rainbows. Dj Rashad’s music is very inspiring, so many different moods in his work! So sad that he passed early. Rest in peace, DJ Rashad.

  • Rp Boo - Speakers R-4 (Sounds)

This one is minimalistic, smart and funny – perfect combo. After listening to it you will finally understand what the Speakers are for. And if those speakers are good, you will feel it to the bone.

  • Traxman - Trax Got Bangz

Traxman and TEKK DJZ crew got bangers for sure, and this is one of them! It’s so funky and powerful.. If I could dance footwork I’d definitely choose Traxman’s tracks for demonstration performances.

  • Jlin - Hatshepsut

This track is crazy, it’s aggressive, but somehow at the same time it’s very gentle. it’s truly extraordinary and well produced. Jlin is going wild with rhythms and sounds, playing tricks with panning, and herewith everything sounds exactly on its place. Great work.

  • Dj Rashad X Dj Spinn X Taso - New Start

I use this tune as an alarm melody for more than two years and I’m still loving it. You know what I mean. I have a lot of favorite footwork tracks made by Teklife members – they are all very talented.

  • Surly - The Future

Juke Bounce Werk’s Surly is one of my very favorite 160 bpm producers now. I literally listened to this tune, “The Count”, “Trip To Warsaw” EP and other Surly’s tracks on repeat. Some moments of life are even remained in my memory with that soundtrack. Dark and deep.

  • Bennelux - Flip The Coin

It’s not possible to imagine footwork scene without Polish Juke. This tune is by Benncart and Lux Familiar, also I really like works by such a cool Polish producers as Rhythm Baboon, Lux Familiar, Symbiotic Sounds.

  • Stayhigh - You're Not Alone

Spanish 160 bpm scene is lovely, producers are growing so talented under southern sun! Stayhigh is one of my favorites, alongside with BSN Posse and their Iberian Juke crew.
