8 Tracks: Of Carnival With Sancho Panza

Music

Now, a duo from London town with whom some will be most familiar… Sancho Panza was the long running institution of fun which took place as part of the infamous Notting Hill Carnival for many years. The parties were the stuff of legend and the dancers still talk of magnificent experiences to this very day. More recently the duo decided to leave the mean streets of the capital and opt for the freedome of the long green grass amidst the countryside. Campo Sancho was born and with it came a brand new festival matched with a sense of love and passion which is hard to rival in this day and age. The carnival dancers remember and new faces have entered the fold….

Ahead of the festival on the 27th of July we invited the infamous duo to pick tracks which left carnival in a spin…

X-Press 2 - Muzik Xpress

Proving just how old school we really are, on the brilliant Junior Boy’s Own label, engineered by a friend of ours with a massive sound and drop befitting of a monster Turbo rig in the street. Musical mayhem.

  • X-Press 2 - Muzik Xpress

Proving just how old school we really are, on the brilliant Junior Boy’s Own label, engineered by a friend of ours with a massive sound and drop befitting of a monster Turbo rig in the street. Musical mayhem.

  • Tiefschwarz Acid Soul

The Schwarz brothers released underground hit after hit from the get go. This classic with a slight break slant got played a few times down at Carnival and ended up on our compilation of the same name.

  • Bee Gees - You Should Be Dancing

We were never shy of playing a big tune down at Carnival, as long as it was a great tune! So much is about the production and the Brothers Gibb were masters.
For this play, 3 of us dressed up in wigs, false teeth and white suits and for one afternoon only formed the HeBeBeeGees! We had a full-choreographed routine…. have very strong memories of lots of smiling faces, lots of people laughing and dancing and some looking completely terrified.

  • Justice Vs Simian - "Never Be Alone" (Hell Remix)

The last tune to be played at our stage after 20 years of fun, love and chaos. We turned the sound off but people kept singing and singing….. the sentiments are clear.

  • Roach Motel - Movin' On

More evidence of our old-school-ness….. a Sancho Panza warehouse party staple in the early years, another Junior Boy’s Own release, this got played at the second Campo and sounded brand new.

  • Johnny Clarke - Blood Dunza

A classic from the superb vocalist that is Johnny Clarke. At Campo Sancho 2018 we’re blessed to have Mr Clarke and his band joining us for some Sunday afternoon sunshine skanking.

  • Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Orchestra - Too Much Information - Laolu Remix (Edit)

A brilliant Laolu mix of the Prince of Afrobeat, Dele Sosimi, another live performer at Campo 2018. He’s providing the closing set for our outdoor stage on Sunday.

  • Crazy P - Heartbreaker

An older selection from the brilliant Crazy P catalogue. Crazy P Sound System played the final slot on our outdoor stage at the first Campo Sancho, a beautiful sunset, hot air balloon passing overhead and a lot of love in the air. At the second Campo there was a lot of rain in the air so we moved them inside our wonderful bar tent and had it right off!
