8 Tracks: Of Body Hammer’s Early Hour Staples

Music

If you've been to a Body Hammer party before you know the drill; leave those inhibitions at the door, open your mind and prepare to get your sweat on. This back to basics ethos has seen residents Scott Fraser and Joe Hart build a loyal and dedicated crowd, captivating the minds, bodies and feet of dancers from London and beyond.

After 11 years of throwing their regular nights across the city, in spaces like Bloc, The Lift Venue and The Pickle Factory, they are now embarking on their next chapter, the launch of their new label. Body Hammer records lives and we couldn't be happier! The music and philosophy behind it will be reflective of what Scott and Joe do at the parties always retaining that true BH spirit; no nonsense and straight to the dance floor.

To celebrate the launch of their first release, two jacking club tracks from the residents themselves, we asked Scott to pick out some staples that soundtrack those early hours at Body Hammer.

2b - Eclipse

Secret weapon, decent label. ‘Trust UR Receiver’ on the other side is killer too.

  • Florence - A Touch Of Heaven

Subtle, beautiful record. Shifts the mood like only Robbers can. From 91 too, incredible eh?

  • Trackman - Four

Mark Archer on killer form, from a wicked double pack on Ideal.

  • Cabaret Voltaire Keep On ( Derrick May Mix)

Derrick May and CV. Total viber… over and out.

  • Claude Young - Acid Wash Conflict

If there’s a better 1AM tune out there I’ve yet to find it. 7th City Records from ’95. Rubadub Records I salute you.

  • Glenn Underground - Real Space (House Music - 1993)

GU at his finest on probably my favourite label of all time. I think I bought this in Tower Records in Glasgow… they always had a hefty DJAX section.

  • Upsammy - Another Place - Nous'klaer 011

Bought this in Low Company last year, the whole EP is just great. A new BH weapon.

  • Larry Heard Vs. Marshall Jefferson - You're Mine Vs. Destination (Zernell Gillie's Rework)

Gene Hunt edit from the excellent two album set on Rush Hour. Regular “what the fuck is this?” tune for the crowd, perfect BH record.
