8 Tracks: For Walking through Warsaw with Newborn Jr.

Music

From his home base in the Polish capital of Warsaw Adam Brocki makes music as Newborn Jr. His productions navigate the different corners of house, ambient and breaks, predominantly through his partnership with friend Earth Trax AKA Bartosz Krucynzski, who he's clocked up several releases with on Echovolt, Les Yeux Orange and Phonica Records, to name but a few.

Alongside this, he's explored elements of rave, hardcore and techno with his releases on Indigo Aera, Technosoul and REKIDS, as part of Private Press with friend Jan Woycicki. Next up he lands on King Of Kong with World Museum, his first full length EP for the label after contributing a remix on their inaugural release earlier this year.

Here he takes us on a sonic trip through the Warsaw streets he encounters on the walk to his studio…

Sex Packet - Babie Lato (1992)

Kredytowa/Jasna Street… The journey starts here, passing by a small park called Dabrowskiego Square where young people who want to drink a beer fight with homeless people for free benches as they want to rest on them. It’s also a place where well-known Instagram model takes her 1000 euro dog dressed in a Louis Vuitton vest for a piss.

  • Kaz Balagane X Belmondo -Sos, Ciuchy I Borciuchy:

Królewska Street… For most of the day, this street is occupied by buses that brought school children for casual museum tours, senior german tourist or young police academy students. In all it’s pride and glory, someone forgot to work out better solutions for managing pretty dense traffic as accidents happen quite often here.

  • Lso - Serce

Plac Bankowy / Bankowy Square… The worst place to be on a hot sunny day, so you can try to hide in one of the many food chain restaurants there or run around a small maze called Metro Ratusz Arsenal station. It’s always chilly there and you can contemplate the economics of many small shops placed there.

  • Lion Vibrations - Dub 4u

Bohaterów Getta Street… If you were to get tired of drinking your soy latte in Costa Coffee or drinking vodka at U Kucharzy, this street will take you to a nice park and be aware of people who ride bikes because they tend to drive like crazy there.

  • Zip Sklad - Lepsze Zycie

Andersa/Swietojerska Street… It’s always a good idea to have a longer walk around that area especially to see the Chinese Embassy, the architecture of the main building and some sort of campus is painted in this very nice pink colour. By the way turning on loop mode for this track is a good idea as this part will take a long time.

  • Dzamble I Andrzej Zaucha - Naga Rzeka

Stawki Street… Finally, the part where it’s possible to escape from this specific Warsaw city centre vibe. Normally there’s always someone who is screaming, shouting some curse words or at least calls you “chuju”, “spierdalaj” or “pedale”. It might happen due to this small 24/7 liquor store that by the way looks very flimsy with all those great buildings surrounding it.

  • Hewra - Bazarek

Plac Wilsona/ Wilsona Square… Place of many options, entertainment, food and a glimpse of how the people behave in the supposedly most posh district in Warsaw. Actually it’s more like a sanctuary of public transportation but this way you can be even more eco-friendly.

  • Slawomir Kulpowicz Ft. Czeslaw Niemen: Song For Mohindar

Sady Zoliborskie… The final destination. Have another coffee, join one of the groups of old folks playing chess, arrange a meeting with someone who will need to listen to your stories for a long time or maybe you want to cross paths with your dealer. No matter what you choose, you will be safe there.
